Cromarty Courthouse Museum

What else is in Cromarty?

Little vennel: photo by Dave NewmanCromarty, on the tip of the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth, is one of the Scottish Highlands' best preserved historic villages.

An unspoiled 18th century port, from where many highlanders emigrated to the New World, it was bypassed by the railways and became a quiet backwater in the modern world.

Today, Cromarty has developed new energy and its attractive houses and streets are home to a thriving community that can offer a wealth of attractions: sandy beaches, boat trips to view bottlenose dolphins, eating places, a range of accommodation types, beautiful countryside, wildlife, and bird reserves of international importance – and of course our two museums: Cromarty Courthouse and the Hugh Miller museum and cottage.

Cromarty is only 40 minutes drive from Inverness, the 'Capital of the Highlands'. It is a convenient base from which to travel throughout the Highlands, but also slightly off the beaten track, offering a peaceful and relaxing stay, away from the hurly burly of the main tourist routes.

Meanwhile, why not
