Cromarty Courthouse Museum

What else is in Cromarty?

Cromarty tour mapCromarty, on the tip of the Black Isle at the mouth of the Cromarty Firth is the Scottish Highlands' best preserved historic town.

An unspoiled 18th century port, from where many highlanders emigrated to the New World, it was bypassed by the railways and became a quiet backwater in the modern world.

Today, Cromarty has developed new energy and its attractive houses and streets are home to a thriving community that can offer a wealth of attractions to the modern visitor: sandy beaches, boat trips to view our bottlenose dolphins, eating places, a range of accommodation types, beautiful countryside, wildlife, and bird reserves of international importance – and of course our two museums: Hugh Miller’s birthplace, and Cromarty Courthouse.

Cromarty is only 40 minutes drive from Inverness, the 'Capital of the Highlands'. It is a convenient base from which to travel throughout the Highlands, but also slightly off the beaten track, offering a peaceful and relaxing stay, away from the hurly burly of the main tourist routes.

Meanwhile, why not
