Highlanders and slavery: The Cromarty connection
In 2007 Cromarty Courthouse Museum produced a ground-breaking exhibition to mark the 200th anniversary of the abolition of the African slave trade. ‘Slaves and Highlanders’, written and researched by David Alston and designed and illustrated by John McNaught, has been praised for its high quality and originality.
The exhibition can be seen online at http://antislavery.ac.uk/items/show/519. David has continued to research the connections between the Highlands and slavery, especially the involvement with Guyana.
