The Back Room

In 2004 the Museum went through its first major refurbishment since its inauguration. A temporary exhibition space has been created in what was the old patrol room. We can now host touring and temporary exhibitions in a dedicated space. The walls have been lined with breathable blank surface and new specialist lighting installed.

At the time that this work was being done the Museum received a visit from Madame Diana Back. She was orphaned by the explosion of the HMS Natal in 1915. Both her father, the Captain and her mother, who were on board at the the time, were killed, whilst she was onshore at a party. Not long after her visit she sent a substantial donation to the Museum's fund. It is to her generosity and the memory of those who died on the Natal that we name that space as The Back Room.

If you are interested in using this exhibition space contact the museum for more details.
